of the year has just passed by, June 21 if you must know.
Winter has set in and strangely, the cold southerly blast that we have been experiencing of late, actually blows in good news for our Club.
Maniatoto seed is harvested in the lower regions of the South Island. The plant itself needs cold wintery blasts to trigger the process of seed development.
So that now begins.
The green areas in the photo are strong and healthy maniatoto plants. The yellow parts are 'intruders'- some of which we introduced to maintain good cover throughout the last playing season.
We have ordered substantial quantities of fresh maniatoto seed to replant those yellow patches.
A good seed harvest down south, solid preparation of the green surface, and reasonable weather conditions leading up to summer, could make our playing surface the best one since 2012, when we changed the green to maniatoto.
Our Greenkeeper Glenn will need some help with preparation over the next couple of months, so even if you can do a little bit, please step up and be counted.
The lemon tree at the back of the clubhouse is already doing its part,
all the vitamin C you could ask for...
